Coordinates and oversees outside counsel in trial and appellate work;monitors all claims-related litigation against the exchanges; monitors litigation reporting procedures and requirements; assures that claims-based litigation against the exchanges is handled in a consistent and effective manner.
Position Requirements
Coordinates and oversees claims related litigation against insurance exchange and domestic carrier members of the Farmers Group of Companies on files assigned by supervisor. Works with assigned outside attorneys to assure that cases are handled in accordance with group's objectivesof providing the member exchanges and companies consistent and effective representation. Works with other departmental personnel, specifically including assigned claims directors and others, to assess litigation for extra contractual exposure, to educate field claims personnel on legal holdings and otherl aw related to claims practices, and to provide advice on the resolution of underlying cases. Furnishes regular reports regarding litigation and status of cases to supervisors and Vice President of involved claims department. Performs special assignments, as assigned by immediate supervisor. Prepares and submits reports as required by immediate supervisor. Identifies and reports to supervisor on areas and problems which are systemic and may give rise to exposure to the Companies. Manages appeals of litigated cases and assists handling attorneys on matters of procedure and substantive law including pleadings, discovery matters and policy coverage questions. Performs other functions as assigned. Attends mediations and settlement conferences as the company representative and negotiator.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
10+ years bad faith litigation experience highly preferred.
This position is located in Burbank, CA. NO RELOCATION ASSISTANCE PROVIDED.

Required job duties are essentially sedentary work consisting of occasional walking, standing, and lifting and/or carrying 20 lbs.
Physical Environment
Required job duties are normally performed in a climate - controlled office environment with some exposure to uncontrolled outside environmental conditions as well as travel by automobile and/or commercial transportation.
Education Requirements
Four-year college degree, law school degree from a State Bar Association accredited law school, and member in good standing of the State Bar in the state in which position is located.
Experience Requirements
Minimum six years as an attorney in the field of litigation and/or corporate law.
Special Skills Requirements
Public speaking Ability to function in adversarial or confrontational situations Driving Strong writing and editing skills.
